La série Pacifica est à l'origine de nombreux best-sellers chez Yamaha. Ce succès lui a permis de se démarquer par rapport à la concurrence et de montrer qu'elle était capable de réaliser des instruments exceptionnels. Loin de se reposer sur ses lauriers, la marque continue de faire évoluer sa gamme en proposant, comme c'est le cas ici, des instruments toujours plus originaux.
Une combinaison de micros inhabituelle
La principale caractéristique de cette guitare est sans aucun doute son électronique. Il est rare de trouver un instrument combinant un micro humbucker ainsi qu'un P90, ce qui est bien dommage étant donné les possibilités qu'ils offrent une fois réunis. Les diverses sonorités présentes dans cet instrument lui offrent une sympathique polyvalence, décuplée par la présence d'un potentiomètre de tonalité push-pull. Ce dernier permet de splitter le micro humbucker afin de le transformer en micro à simple bobinage.
Une lutherie fiable
La lutherie s'abstient de toute originalité pour proposer des caractéristiques fiables et réputées. Le corps en aulne est prolongé par un manche, vissé, en érable. Une touche en palissandre accueille 22 frettes. Le chevalet fixe assure un sustain efficace et une grande stabilité d'accordage, tout comme les six mécaniques à bain d'huile.

P90 is amazingly full and crisp.Perfect for blues.
Tuners are nice to use and tone is warm and vibrant.Only 4 stars because it needs a bit of set up out of the box,as in adjusting individual string height and sanding downedges of the frets.Beautiful looking guitar,will motivate you to keep picking it up.

Niet zo lang geleden besloot ik om een Yamaha Pacifica 311 te gaan kopen. Met enig geluk zag ik een net afgeprijsd B-stock gitaar bij BAX en die heb ik laten afleveren bij de voor mij dichtstbijzijnde vestiging om hem eens uit te proberen. Estetisch verkeerde de gitaar in topconditie maar de vorige eigenaar zal een reden gehad hebben waarom hij hem teruggestuurd/gebracht heeft. Tijdens het uittesten kwam ik er op een bepaald moment achter dat de intonatie/tuning van de dikke E-snaar af fabriek niet helemaal zuiver was (met name merkbaar toen ik een capo ging gebruiken). Een kort bezoekje aan de technische helpdesk wist dit manco in no-time te verhelpen waarmee ik dus 1 van de vele enthousiaste en gelukkige gebruikers ben geworden van deze uitermate veelzijdige gitaar voor een vriendenprijsje. B-stock modellen zijn mijn inziens zeker het overwegen waard; ze doen niet onder voor een gloed nieuwe al is het aan te bevelen om het instrument eerst even goed uit te testen in de winkel zelf. Laat niet alleen jouw ogen werken maar gebruik ook jouw oren om er zeker van te zijn dat jouw nieuwe instrument helemaal gaat voldoen aan jouw verwachtingen. En test ook gelijk even uit of alle schakelaars functioneren (zonder piepen of kraken). Bij twijfel of alles klopt gewoon even het winkelpersoneel vragen wat zij ervan vinden. Als ook zij dan van mening zijn dat er "iets" niet klopt wordt je als vanzelf doorverwezen naar de juiste persoon om jouw "probleem" te helpen oplossen.

Prima working man's guitar voor klassieke rock en blues. Buitengewoon stabiel en stemmingsvast, goede sustain en articulatie. De P90 in de hals is gewoon errug lekker, en in combinatie met de splitsbare humbucker heb je alles van donkerbruin tot felle twang in één podiumbestendig instrument bij elkaar.
