Kala Solid Body 4-String Fretted U-Bass Tobacco Burst basse électrique avec housse
This bass is a practical and comfortable alternative to larger scale basses. It's pretty well made and is good enough value for money. I bought it at a very fair price from Bax, and found their service to be good.
I expected some intonation issues with a bass of this scale, and sure enough this was the case. Some online reviews of 23 inch scale basses lean heavily on this subject while others don't mention it at all. Anyway, with the adjustability of the Kala bridge I just about managed to achieve acceptable intonation of the E string with the string set it came with, but really I wanted better. In the end I tried fitting the E string from the Blackstar Carry-on bass string set, which is a bit heavier, and is very reasonably priced. This thicker gauge E was immediately better for tuning stability and has enabled an improved set up altogether. Hopefully there won't be any adverse effect from the heavier string over the longer term, but for now it has solved the main concern I've had with the instrument. Overall, a good purchase.
