Amplifiers by ENGL are an excellent choice for anyone looking for classic tube amplifier sounds. The German company is well known for its engineering excellence and its production of top-quality products just like this E355C tube amp head. It's easy to operate, yet still features everything the modern guitarist needs. In terms of its appearance, the aged white exterior and brown fabric give it a classic look to go with the classic tones it produces. ENGL no longer produce this model but we've still got a few left here at Bax Music, so don't delay if you want one. When they're gone, they're gone!
ENGL E355C: tubes and sounds
The E355C Classic Head is equipped with two 5881 power tubes that are comparable to 6L6GCs. These tubes are well known for leaving the sound of the preamps untouched and barely going into overdrive for a sound that is associated with American tube amps. The preamplifier is driven by four ECC83 tubes (also known as 12AX7s) which deliver that familiar tube sound complete with overdrive. This combination of tubes gives the E355C its enormously versatile sound with sparkling cleans and singing lead tones.
Controls and connections
The two channels (lo gain & hi gain) each have their own gain and volume controls and share a 3-band EQ which makes the E355C extremely simple to set up and get a great sound out of. In combination with the optional ENGL-4 foot switch, it's possible to work with two volume levels per channel, letting you control the difference in volume between rhythm and lead parts with ease. There's an FX loop with an adjustable level so that you can easily connect and use your favourite effects pedal too. There's also a line out with ground lift and a volume control, giving you plenty of functionality.
