Eddie Van Halen is responsible for many of the guitar innovations that are around today. He was the first to put a humbucker pickup into an ST-style guitar, for instance. This D-Tuna is also the brainchild of the guitar legend. With this ingenious piece of hardware, tuning almost any guitar with a Locking Tremolo to Drop D is child's play. The chrome-plated version of the EVH D-Tuna Drop D is suitable for most (Licensed) Floyd Rose tremolo bridges. Simply remove the locking screw from the low E string and replace it with the D-Tuna. Then you can quickly and easily tune your guitar to Drop D and back again.

Operating the EVH D-Tuna chrome

Because the total tension across a Floyd Rose bridge is largely dependent on the tension of the individual strings, changing the tension of one string often has undesired consequences. Lowering the E string, for instance, lowers the tension overall. This usually means that you need to retune all the strings. Tuning to Drop D, therefore, is never as easy as it should be. Eddie Van Halen also suffered from this problem and came up with the D-Tuna as a result. With one turn of the D-Tuna you can tune your low E string to a D. The trick is that the D-Tuna ensures that the total tension across all the strings remains the same, so your instrument stays in tune.
